The Linking Stool is designed to enhance the collective life experience of children in kindergartens. With its round shape and the ability to link stools together, it encourages children to get closer to one another and engage in collaborative play. By linking the stools, children can create a space where they can gather around teachers or play games together, fostering a sense of intimacy and the development of sharing skills.
Made from teakwood, the Linking Stool is not only functional but also aesthetically pleasing. Its unique design sets it apart from traditional kindergarten stools, offering a more engaging and interactive experience for children.
Measuring 400mm x 245mm x 230mm, the Linking Stool is compact and easy to move around. Its sturdy construction ensures durability, making it suitable for the active environment of a kindergarten.
The Linking Stool project was led by Bruce Tao, with the collaboration of designers Xuhui Chen, Fubing Wang, Shailene Pu, and Sai Tian. Together, they aimed to create a design that would enhance the educational activities in kindergartens and promote social interaction among children.
The Linking Stool's chain-like structure is achieved through a linking plate and support legs, with linking shafts connecting the stools. The stools can be linked together by inserting the linking shafts into the linking holes on the seats, allowing multiple stools to be connected and creating a space for collaborative play.
The Linking Stool project started in April 2018 in Tianjin and was completed in August 2018. It was exhibited in Shantou in September 2018, where it garnered attention for its innovative design and contribution to the field of kindergarten furniture.
The smoothness and precision of the wood used in the Linking Stool presented a challenge during the design process. However, the team overcame this obstacle to create a high-quality and visually appealing product.
The Linking Stool, designed by Bruce Tao, is patented under Patent No. 201920058555.X. This recognition highlights the uniqueness and originality of the design, further solidifying its place in the field of kindergarten furniture.
The Linking Stool was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Baby, Kids, and Children's Products Design category in 2019. This prestigious award recognizes designs that exhibit outstanding creativity and resourcefulness, contributing to improvements in quality of life.
